Export advice prior to ship a car from the UK to new destination is a must that every Vehicle Owner must put in place to understand what fully what shipping a car from the UK entitles.
The length of time you intend to ship a car for export it out from the UK for will determine declarations that you will need to make to the UK authorities and to overseas customs.
It will also play an important role in determining what documentation that will be required both in the UK and on arrival at destination prior to ship a car.
Ship a Car – Permanent Export
If you ship a car out of Great Britain permanently you must notify the DVLA.
To do this, you need to fill out the ‘permanent export’ section of your vehicle logbook (V5C), as soon you ship a car on a vessel and then complete the vessel departure date and detach it and send it to the DVLA.
If you have moved abroad and want your vehicle tax refunded, then include a letter with your new address.
You need to keep the rest of your vehicle logbook (V5C) as you will need it to register your vehicle in the country you are moving to.
If you decide to ship a car and you are buying a vehicle to take abroad make sure that the seller gives you the full vehicle logbook (V5C) not just the new keeper slip.
Information on permanent export of a vehicle can be found on the GOV.UK website.
