We can support your journey and ship a car to Australia with no problems, and we will support you in the whole process:

  • Vehicle Import Approval (VIA)

Before ship a car, you must apply for a VIA through the Department of Infrastructure’s ROVER portal. Applications can take 4–6 weeks to process. Importing without approval can lead to customs seizure and significant storage fees.

  • Prepare the Vehicle for Shipping

Ensure the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned before you ship a car, remove soil, plant matter, and pests, as these can cause quarantine delays. Additionally, remove any air-conditioning refrigerant and arrange for asbestos testing and removal if necessary.

Shipping costs vary based on the vehicle’s size and origin, typically ranging from AUD 3,000 to AUD 5,000. Shipping duration can be between 2 to 12 weeks, depending on the departure and arrival ports.

Customs Clearance when you Ship a Car

Upon arrival, lodge an import declaration and pay:

  • 5% import duty
  • 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • Luxury Car Tax (LCT) if the vehicle’s value exceeds AUD 65,094 (AUD 75,526 for fuel-efficient vehicles)

Ensure the vehicle is free from asbestos, as its importation is strictly prohibited.

Quarantine Inspection

Submit a Quarantine Entry and arrange an inspection with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Be prepared for potential cleaning costs if the vehicle fails the inspection.

Meet Approval Conditions

Depending on the VIA type, you may need to modify the vehicle to comply with Australian Design Rules (ADRs). This could involve adjustments to lighting, seat belts, emissions systems, and more. The cost of these modifications can range from AUD 2,000 to AUD 15,000.

Register the Vehicle

Once compliance is achieved, apply for registration in your state or territory. This may include a roadworthiness inspection and payment of registration fees. Note that additional state-specific requirements may apply.

Obtain Insurance

Ensure the vehicle is insured before driving. Third Party Insurance is mandatory for all vehicles on Australian roads
